Impact of Cinema on Today’s Youth

Cinema has always been one of the most enthralling audio-visual means of communication. People have always found it one of the finest modes of entertainment and this is perhaps one of the prime reasons behind its colossal popularity. In fact, this massive impact of cinema has been specially noticed among today’s youth. It not only influences them but even plays a pivotal role in creating their mindsets.
Similar to all other countries, this enormous impact of cinema has even been noticed in our country. Indian youth have always been die-hard fans of the Bollywood movies. They are highly attracted by the glamour and fame of this industry and some of them even dream to pursue a thriving career in the same.

Moreover, after watching a movie some of the teens even start to imitate the mannerisms of their favorite actors. Be it their fashion sense, lifestyle, or anything else, teens often try to follow the same and it eventually pave the ground for certain adverse consequences. Few of them even turn out to be smokers or alcoholics by getting influenced from the movies they watch.

Apart from these, there are several other factors like excessive violence and sex, which further corrupt the innocent minds of the teens on a large scale. At such a young age, they often do not have the maturity to understand the difference between reel and real lives and it further worsens the entire scenario.

But as a coin has got two sides, similarly cinema has also certain positive aspects as well. Still there are certain movies like Rang De Basanti and Chak De India, which educate the youth and even inspire them to do something fruitful in their lives. These films are even an eye-opener for all of them as it blatantly portrays the corrupted nature of our so-called “respected” political leaders.

Besides this, there are also some of the critically acclaimed films like Taare Zameen Par, which has brought a radical transformation in the education system of our country. After watching this film, many tutors have restrained themselves from punishing the students harshly and have even become much more sympathetic for the physically or mentally challenged ones.

Moreover, films often inspire the youth to raise their voices against anarchism and the repressive power of the ruling class. In fact, it is due to films, sometimes the youth even dare to revolt against the pre-existing norms and conventions of our society.

Hence, today it is also the responsibility of the filmmakers to ensure that they must not come up with such movies that can create any negative influence among the youth. They should always keep in mind that the purpose of a film is not only to provide entertainment, but also to educate the masses. Until and unless this objective gets fulfilled, cinema can never be used for the betterment and progress of humanity.
